When you arrive at the gym you expect equipment to be where you can find it easily. Cleaning up your equipment is not just expected, it is required. We have all made a commitment to be part of a community that respects one another. Before you leave, ensure that you equipment is in the right spot.

When you are cleaning up, save your coach from a brain aneurysm and strip down your barbell properly. This means you should lift the barbell and slide the plates off of it, then place it back on the floor—don’t just let it crash to the ground. This is how they get damaged, so please be kind to the barbells.

Aside from being obvious point of hygiene, it is respectful to the next athlete to make sure the equipment is clean. Grab a disinfectant wipe, and take the 30 seconds to wipe down your equipment. Please do it—for everyone’s sake.

When you’re setting up for a WOD that requires numerous pieces of equipment try to set up your area with the gear in such a way to make everything easily accessible as you switch from movement to movement. This can even extend to the pull-up bar—especially if you need to attach a band. If you have not gotten out a piece of equipment, or coordinated with someone else to share equipment, don’t just expect to jump in. Be respectful.

Maybe a minute or two is ok occasionally but being chronically late shows a lack of respect for other athletes, coaches and members. This isn’t a big box gym—you can’t show up whenever you please (unless it’s Open gym). Classes run on a tight schedule and we need every minute in order to get all instruction, skill and workouts in each day. Plan out your day and plan to be here a few minutes early not a few minutes late!

It doesn’t matter if you’ve been doing CrossFit for 1 month or 5 years, it’s disrespectful to have your own private conversation or do your own thing when the coach is trying to give instruction to the class. You may know how to perform each movement, but not everyone does, so just be patient and quiet and let everyone get the full benefits of the coaches’ knowledge. We also need to continue to learn and grow. Be respectful of the other athletes in the class and the coach.

Chalk makes us all stronger. This is just science. The buckets containing this white gold are usually tactically placed be easily accessible to as many people as possible in the middle of a WOD. Chalk is also a fine powder that causes dust to spread around the gym and no one really wants to do burpees in piles of dust. Chalk with your hands in the bucket and don’t take blocks of chalk out of the bucket.

This is a critical for safety issue. Moving around during a workout is often necessary. If you are moving it is your responsibility to be aware of athletes that are lifting. Stay away from others that are lifting. Standing in front of behind or too close can cause you or them injury. Respect their desire to do their best and everyone’s desire to be safe.

Ghost riding refers to dropping barbells, kettlebells dumbbells and all manner of equipment from overhead, regardless of the situation or weight. This is important because dumbbells, kettlebells and barbells with thin plates can bounce when dropped from overhead and ricochet into yourself and other athletes. Reserve the sensation of clanging plates for the strictly heavy lifts.

A large part of the motivation to finish a workout is knowing that everyone will be at the finish line together with cheers and support. When you finish the workout refrain from cleaning up your gear until everyone finishes. Until that point, rest, cheer or lay on the floor, but respect the rest of the athletes still working!

Coaches will welcome the class and take a few minutes to meet new folks and introduce them to the class, but as a community, we want new folks to meet members and feel comfortable. Take a few minutes before or after class to talk to new athletes and make them understand that this is more than a gym. It is a community!

We are right where Pasadena, Glen Burnie and Curtis Bay meet! Your GPS will take you directly in front of our location but often across the street. We are located directly beneath the large American Flag. From Energy Parkway, turn onto Brandon Woods Lane and then turn left into our parking lot.

Make sure you are medically cleared for physical activity and bring a list of medical conditions our coaches should know about you.

Drink plenty of water. You will sweat while you are with us so prepare your body for your first session. You should have some food in your body before you attend class. Food is fuel and you need fuel for your body!

Wear comfortable workout clothes. Your clothes should be a bit form fitting to reduce the risk of clothing binding or getting in the way of you working out, but you must also feel comfortable. Also, wear shoes appropriate for all types of movements. Wearing anything brand new may cause some discomfort, so be wise.

We sure do. We have a single shower that athletes are free to use. We also have fresh clean towels for use.

This may vary for each athlete. Most can expect to be capable of three days a week. The key is to pay specific attention to your body. If you are sore, come workout and stretch!
